This module explores the transformation process of our energy systems, as an urgent response to climate change effects and the need to take climate mitigation actions.

Learning objectives:

  • It introduces relevant details related to climate change and its effects, bringing together causes, current challenges and potential solutions, based on multiple climate scenarios (including interactive in-class simulations).
  • The seminars are then transitioning to the current energy systems’ transformation and are exploring the tensions of the energy trilemma (energy security – energy affordability – environmental sustainability). Based on case studies, students will be able to understand the challenges and opportunities of the energy transition process and to test their solutions during class sessions.
  • Lastly, the module also details the role of different stakeholders in the energy transition process, the importance of the policy making process and how policy design is affecting and influencing their social and economic status.
